Peter B. Kehler, age 86, of Steinbach, MB, passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2018, at the Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, MB.
Peter is survived by: his wife Helen; four children: Larry (Sheila), Alice (Dale) Barkman, Carol (Lorne) Dyck, and Sandra (Sheldon) Harms; four grandchildren: Clinton (Jessica) Barkman, and Jessica Barkman, Christopher (Nicole) Dyck, Caitlin Dyck, and six great-grandchildren. Recently a Manitoba Hydro employee found a 17-page booklet, originally issued back in the early 1940’s by City of Winnipeg Hydro. The booklet includes cooking instructions for everything from the main-course turkey to stuffing, relish, puddings, sauces, salads, pies, pastries, cookies and more.
Peacefully on Monday, December 11, 2017 at Concordia Hospital, Ken passed away at the age of 79 years.
Left to cherish his memory are sons, Ron (Carole), Brad (Lois), Rick (Jocelyn), daughter Charlene (Wes), grandchildren, Curtis (Jody), Michelle (Kevin), Brian (fiancée Paige), Stephanie, Vanessa, great grandchildren, Evan, Grant, Madeleine and Emma, brothers Glen (Kathy), Reuben (Tina), and Peter (Judy), and sister Joyce (Corny) as well as numerous family members. Peter was the eighth child in a family of 14 children. Two brothers and one sister predeceased him in infancy. His siblings were born between 1885 -1904. Growing to adulthood were Maria, Jacob, Gerhard, Aron, Johan, then Peter, Susanna, David, Heinrich, Elizabeth and Cornelius. Peter’s birth place was the farm located just north of the Mitchell ball park.
Peter was a small baby weighing a mere three and one-half pounds, so he was told. Incubators were unheard of but with intuition and ingenuity, bricks were warmed in the oven to surround him with warmth. He survived and grew to be a slim, dapper-looking man in his younger years. Peacefully, with family by her side Annie Kehler passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Bethesda Place Personal Care Home, Steinbach.
Mom was predeceased by her husband John H. Kehler who passed away February 11, 2000. They had been married for 57 years. She is survived by her brother Andre Kehler currently living in Paraguay.
