Today,  July 1, 2011 Canada celebrates it’s 144th year since Confederation. While Canada Day celebrates the events that occurred on this day in 1867, when the British North America (BNA) Act created the Canadian federal government, the Kehler Clan celebrates for another reason.

Exactly 8 years after The BNA Act proclaimed “one Dominion under the name of Canada”,  Elizabeth Schultz (Kehler), together with her parents Aron & Maria Schultz and her siblings, first stepped on Canadian soil on the First of July, 1875.

It was also on this exact same day of the Schultz’s arrival to Canada,  Jacob “Berliner” Kehler, then age 9, together with his siblings and parents Gerhard & Susan Kehler left the Liverpool harbour. They arrived in Canada on the S.S. Peruvian No. 30, on July 13, 1875.

No doubt on that First of July,  both Elizabeth (Schultz) and Jacob “Berliner” Kehler felt nervous!  The future in this new country of Canada held excitement, hardships, happiness and tears. It would also bring these two together who would establish a union, whereby raising up a brand new breed of Kehlers, “one kinfolk under the name of The Berliner Kehlers”!

O Canada!
Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.
With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!
From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

What a perfect day to reflect on God’s goodness and His leading our begetters to this grand country of ours!

  1. We, The Kehler Clan, owe Brad Kehler a debt of gratitude for opening this website, maintaining, and encouraging members to add their stories and comments. It is obvious that he enjoys it. I’m sure that there are many stories and anecdotes out there waiting to be told, and shared on this website.
    Keep it up
