Randy was born in Ste. Anne, Man. on December 4, 1974. He was a fun loving young boy and brought much joy to his family. He was always a small boy when he was young, and started falling down frequently. At first, we thought that he had a coordination problem. At age seven, randy was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy. This didn’t mean much to us at this time because we were ignorant to what this was. Randy found things frustrating at first but soon resigned himself to life that was to go through constant changes.Fortunately, about seven months before Randy was diagnosed, Christ became an integral part of our family. Randy got saved when he was seven, and baptized when he was fourteen. This was obviously in preparation to what was to come. The first major change came at age 10 when Randy was confined to a wheelchair. Randy adapted to the changes with a great deal of help from his mom. He captured the hearts and the lives of the people he met. He had a special love and understanding for people. The patience he had with people was remarkable. Randy was a true overcomer. About four years ago he has told that he probably would not live much more then three months. Randy inspired the people he knew when he graduated in 1992.
Randy got very weak Good Friday. He had a touch of pneumonia. He rapidly got weaker. He was taken to Bethesda Hospital on Monday night. He was experiencing substantial internal bleeding and as a result got weaker and weaker. Many family members and friends came to see him in the hospital. On April 18, 1996 at 10:30 p.m. Randy had a special experience. He got a glimpse of heaven and shared the excitement with his family at his bedside. Randy enjoyed us singing, “I’ll Fly Away” at his bedside.
On Friday April 19, 1996 at 12:05 a.m. , Randy went to be with Jesus, with his family at his side.
He is survived by his parents, John and Mathilda Fehr, two sisters, Wendy and Candace and brother-in-law Doug Bergen. Paternal grandparents John and Agnes Fehr, maternal grandparents Pete and Tina Neufeld, as well as many friends, cousins, uncles and aunts. He was predeceased by a special friend Harry Bartel in 1995.
Pastor Jim Humphries was in the hospital the whole time and helped Randy walk through the shadow of death. Psalm 23.
