The Berliner Kehler clan is being represented at the Gimli Motorsports Park this summer once again. In reversed racing, Wayne Kehler, together with his son Reegan have been busy all winter prepping their car, #200X. Winnipeg Sports Car Club holds five race weekends in the summer months at the Gimli Motorsports Park. These race weekends are two days of non-stop racing on the 1.45 mile, 10 corner race track.
Winnipeg Sports Car Club, a member of the Western Canada Motorsport Association, participates in the amateur road racing program. This program provides traditional club racing for sports cars similar to the program conducted by Sports Car Club of America. Under this program, automobiles are classified according to their type, size, level of modification, and relative performance. They compete with other cars in their class on a paved, closed circuit road courses. The cars and drivers must meet stringent safety requirements, which include roll bars, fire systems, helmets, fire suits, and a full five point safety harness. Drivers must obtain a special license to compete, which is granted after a special driver’s school is successfully completed.
Cars, maintenance and repairs are nothing new to the Kehler father and son duo. Wayne grew up in the automotive industry, under the watch of his dad (the late) Jake Kehler. Since 1955, Jake’s Husky has been serving their customers in the Steinbach area, and continues to do so.
