The Spirit of Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving, as I remember while growing up at our place, that it was a very busy time of the year…

Thanksgiving, as I remember while growing up at our place, that it was a very busy time of the year, and not affording us much time to admire this beautiful time of the year, when the leaves turn to such glorious shades and colors for our eyes to marvel at.

Our whole family would be in the midst of processing thousands of chickens and turkeys for the Thanksgiving and Christmas tables.  For our own dinners however, we seldom had turkey, but most times it was a roasted goose, stuffed with “bubbatt” dressing and all the trimmings that provided a great feast for our very large family who made it home for Thanksgiving. TROY, NY — As he sat at his locker stall Tuesday at RPI’s Houston Field House, Myles Stoesz sported a badge of his role for the Albany Devils. The area around Stoesz’s left eye was discolored, and just above the cheekbone he sported a gash.

“This was from the (helmet) visor,” he said, pointing to the gash received in a fight with Toronto’s Kyle Neuber, “and this (left eye) is the one punch that hit me.”

With spring starting to make its debut here in Calgary, having already enjoyed some double digit temperatures, we look forward to celebrating Easter with the family.

Thinking back to some former years, Easter was something I really looked forward to as a youngster in the “1950’s”.  My job was to boil a bunch of eggs and then paint them by dipping them into various batches of food coloring in bowls.  After that we would get some “transfer tattoos” of various types of symbols to decorate them with.
