Violet Anne Doerksen, age 89, of Steinbach, MB, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2016, at her home, Woodhaven Manor.

She was predeceased by her husband, Peter H. Doerksen, in 1992, her oldest son, Edward in 1996, two sons-in-law, Musa & Lawrence, four brothers and one sister.

She is survived by four brothers and one sister. Mom and Dad were married on August 1, 1946 and had six children. Edward (Brenda) and their family, Edward, Daryl and Karen; Peter (Rose) and their family, Bonnie and Raymond; Marilyn Shamuyarira; Henry (Naomi) and their family, Shauna, Matthew and Brian; Bev (Mel Dueck) and their family, Melanie, Caleb and Jesse; Elaine (Reg Peters) and their family, Megan and Kaitlin.

She was also blessed with five great-grandchildren with two more on the way.

Mom was born in Lampman, SK. to John and Annie Kehler. They moved back to Steinbach when she was seven years old. She attended an evangelistic meeting when she was 10 years old, where she gave her life to the Lord. She was baptized in 1946 at the age of 20.

After mom and dad were married they lived in Steinbach for seven years. They then purchased the farm near Randolph, MB where they lived for the next 32 years.

Mom loved her local church, Silberfeld CMC, and served wholeheartedly with the ladies group. She taught junior youth and 4-H for many years. Mom welcomed young people to her home, providing them with an abundance of food and laughter.

Dad and Mom moved to Steinbach in 1986. They enjoyed an active retirement, serving at the MCC Thrift Shop, travelling and serving with the Steinbach CMC serving group.

After Dad passed away, Mom moved to Woodhaven Apartments, where she lived until her passing. Mom loved the Lord and she loved people. She wrote to many missionaries always remembering their birthdays and anniversaries, sent them encouraging words and prayed for them faithfully.

Mom was a faithful prayer warrior. Her prayer list included her family, especially her grandchildren, nieces and nephews, Christian organizations, missionaries, shut ins, and so many others as she heard of their needs.

Mom had a way of making people feel welcome in her home. She loved to cook and bake for others and it brought her so much joy to see others enjoying her food! Many will remember her love gifts of nuts and bolts, rhubarb pie, cream cookies, and marshmallow squares.

The family would like to sincerely thank the Palliative care staff and the Homecare workers who brightened her day with their visits. Special thanks to Agnes for her years of dedicated service and friendship.

The viewing service will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 Hwy 52 W, Steinbach, MB, with a devotional at 7:30 p.m.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, April 29, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 Hwy 52 W, Steinbach, MB, with a viewing prior to the service. The burial will take place at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, MB.

  1. The news of our precious Violet’s passing was sad, to say the least. A funny shinning light to our family as long as I can remember, a replacement for my aunt Susan and a blessing to each and everyone that had the privilege to be part of her wonderful life. I just hope they will enjoy the “Chicken Soup” parties in Heaven as much as everyone did down here.
